Day at the Spa Raffle

If you haven’t purchased a raffle ticket from a Hornets cheerleader, make sure you do it this week! They are selling raffle tickets for a day at the spa for two. The tickets are $10 each and the winner will be drawn during the senior home game this Sunday.

Reminder to all cheerleading parents – Spa Raffle ticket money is due to one of the board members by Friday. The drawing is this Sunday at our last home game. All proceeds benefit the cheerleaders, which is great for our future squads. Money due per girl should total $50. Thanks so much!!

Warm-ups are in! Coach Wendy will be at TRE for the Mods practice this Wednesday at 6:30PM for anyone that would like to pick them up. Prices are listed below and please make checks out to Wendy Poignon. If anyone would like to pick them up at another time, just call Coach Wendy to make arrangements.

Cheerleader warm-ups: Whole set – $47, Jacket only – $26, Pants only – $21

Spa raffle tickets are due on October 5. When turning in your tickets please put the money and the stubs in an envelope that is sealed.

The drawing will be at our last home game, which is October 9. Remember, all the proceeds go into the cheerleading fund! Anything you can do is greatly appreciated!

Despite the rain, Saturday’s Hornets picnic in Vienna Park was a good time! Players, cheerleaders and their families enjoyed pizza, watermelon, drinks and great company. Congratulations to cheerleader Phoebe Potter – winner of the watermelon eating contest. Thank you for your donations of pop and water for the concession stand.

Reminder: today’s games will be played at the BHS practice field behind the softball diamonds. Please park at the high school. Bring lawn chairs and your Hornets spirit!

Saturday’s Events – Weigh-in & Picnic

This Saturday, September 10, is the mandatory weigh-in for all players. You MUST attend or your child will not be permitted to play in any games this year. Be at the Westwood Rams Field by 11:15 AM. To get to the Rams Field, take Jackman Road south to Smith Road. Turn right (west) on Smith Road. Take Smith to Clover Lane (about 2.8 miles). Turn left (south) on Clover Lane. Cross over Alexis Road and continue on Clover to Airedale. Turn right (west) on Airedale. The Westfield Park/Field is on the left.

The Hornets Boosters will, again, be operating a Concession Stand during our home games. We are asking each football player to donate a 12-pack of pop and each cheerleader to donate a case of bottled water. Please bring your donation to the Hornets Picnic following the weigh-ins on Saturday.

It is a Hornets tradition to have a picnic following the weigh-ins. All football player and cheerleader families are invited. Please join us this Saturday at Vienna Park on W. Vienna Road in Temperance. (W. Vienna Road is off of Crabb between Erie & Temperance Roads.) We will be arriving between 12:30-1:00 PM. As a team, we will enjoy pizza, drinks and fun in the park. Football players need to bring their helmet so we can add their jersey number to it. It’s time to get fired up for Sunday’s game!

NOTE: All TV raffle ticket stubs and money MUST be turned in on Saturday. The drawing will be held during the Senior game on Sunday.

Keep selling those TV raffle tickets!

Raffle ticket money is coming in daily and we are so excited! If you haven’t sold your tickets yet, here’s some additional information on the prize that should help you.

The winner of the raffle will receive a brand-new LG 42″ 720p Plasma HDTV with 600hz Sub-Field Drive. It features TruSlim frame (less than 1″ thick), high definition resolution, Picture Wizard II, Intelligent Sensor, and is ISFccc ready. With energy saving features, it is Energy Star qualified. Wow!

Reminder – All raffle ticket stubs and money must be turned in no later than Thursday, September 8. The winning ticket will be drawn during halftime of the Seniors game on Sunday, September 11.

Parent Meeting Summary

“First and foremost, we are here for the kids…to give them positive reinforcement and allow them to have fun learning a sport.” ~ Coach Dennis Bugg

Thank you to all who attended our mandatory parent meeting. What a great way to get to know your head coach, board members and learn what the Bedford Hornets organization is all about. If you were unable to attend, here’s a quick summary of the meeting.

Dennis Bugg led the meeting by introducing himself, announcing who the coaches of the football team were, and also introducing the board members.

Coach Bugg encouraged parents to become more involved by attending board/booster meetings. Parent input is vital to the success of our organization. The next board/booster meeting will be held on August 29 at Jason & Tamie Spears’ home, 845 Fairfield, off Lewis.

Coach Bugg talked about the new website. The website contains important events, information and dates. It is updated daily. Should you have a question or a concern that is not addressed on the website, please know that you can come to any of your coaches. We like to provide answers and resolve conflicts as soon as possible, so don’t wait. Contact your coach immediately if you need something.

A birth certificate is needed for any football player new to the league. This must be turned in before your child is allowed to play football. Bring a copy to practice as soon as possible.

Volunteers are still needed. Therefore, if you have not signed up to volunteer, please do so. If you choose not to volunteer, you will be asked to pay an additional $25 to the organization. See Tamie Spears in regard to volunteer openings.

Coach Bugg is looking for someone to volunteer a video camera to record all home games. We own a “deer stand” for videotaping games, but do not have a good quality video camera. If you are able to loan a video camera, we have someone willing to videotape from the deer stand. This would be returned to you after each game and would be handled with extreme care. Spirit Wear orders are due by August 24. Order forms were provided at the meeting. If you need a form, you can print one from the link below.

Several fundraisers were discussed:
Raffle tickets are being sold for a flat screen TV drawing. This will be a 42″ plasma TV and each player/cheerleader is responsible for selling 3 tickets at $10 each. Ticket stubs and money are due no later than Thursday, September 8 to a board member.
The cheerleaders are also selling raffle tickets at $10 each for a spa package for two to include manicures, pedicures and facial waxing. This is valued at $170 and each cheerleader will be selling 5 tickets. As well as the raffle, the cheerleaders have a Thirty-One representative who is donating 20% of her sales to the organization. The 3rd Annual Bedford Hornets Golf Outing will be held on September 24 at Sand Wedge Golf Course. This is a great event full of fun and friends! The cost is $45 per person and includes 18 holes of golf, a cart, cookout, prizes and more. We would love to fill the course with 18 teams of four, so start working on assembling your team! You do not have to have a full foursome to be involved in this event. You can be placed with others who do not have a full team or you can volunteer your time to help at the course that day. If you are unable to join us that day, consider sponsoring a hole for $50. Your name or business name will be placed on a sign located at one of the 18 holes. Hornets Golf Flyer

Weigh-ins for all football players are mandatory on September 10 at 11:15 AM at the Rams Football Field. After weigh-ins, there is the annual Hornet Family Picnic at Vienna Park where kids and their families will enjoy a pizza party, watermelon eating contest, games, fun, etc. This is a great way for you to meet the coaches, kids on the teams and other families. This party is for all football players, cheerleaders and their families. Check the website for more details to come soon.

The 2011 season has begun!

The first Hornets football practice was a big success tonight. Way to go, guys! Hope everyone had fun and learned something new.

Several parents asked about a practice schedule. All important Hornets dates are listed on the right side of the home page, but here is the current football practice schedule* in a calendar format for those who prefer this to a list. Please note the parent meeting at 5:30 this Wednesday. This meeting is for both football and cheerleader parents, so plan to attend.

If you have not yet turned in registration forms, paid your fee, volunteered for one of the home games, or picked up TV raffle tickets to sell, you may do so at the next practice. Please see your coach or a member of the Hornets Board to submit any necessary items. If you are in need of a uniform or equipment, please see Equipment Manager Tim Werner at the next practice.
